Activities
At Chimpnest Safari Lodge, we offer different activities at the lodge and around the lodge in collaboration with communities around the lodge. Some of the activities include.
Chimpanzee tracking
Being at the edge of the Kibale Forest national park popularly known as the primate capital, we offer chimpanzee tracking experience through the Uganda Wildlife Authority(UWA) which comes at an extra cost. Our clients can book accommodation along with chimpanzee tracking experience. This activity can only be booked in advance as early as 6 months before. All our chimp trekking permits are purchased through our sister agency Kiboko Africa Safaris.
Community tour
We also organise community tours for our clients through the nearby communities where you learn different ways of living and lifestyles of the locals. This tour takes you to the community where you will be able to visit a local coffee farm in a local home and you will go through the process of coffee making, you will also visit the local doctor or commonly known as the medicine man who uses different kinds of herbs to treat different diseases and illnesses, the visit to the local women group who make a living from making different baskets and crafts and the visit to the banana man where you will learn about different types of bananas and their use and mostly interestingly you wouldn’t want to miss the banana gin, banana, beer and the banana juice. This activity takes about 2 hours.
Swamp walk
Explore the famous Bigodi swamps on a walk as you learn about different plant species, bird species such as the great blue turaco, different animal species especially the monkeys as well as butterflies and other living organisms. This walk may take 2 to 3 hours. This activity can be booked anytime during your stay.
Bird watching
Explore different bird species during your stay at our lodge. being near the forest, we haver many bird species coming at the lodge and all around the lodge we do have several bird species around the lodge and they include, grosbeak weaver, southern red bishop, black and white casqued hornbill, great blue turaco, bronze manikin and many other birds. Bird watching is done both at the lodge and outside the lodge in special designated areas of interest. This can booked anytime while at the lodge.
Local food cooking experience
For the foodies who would love to have a taste of the Ugandan local food, we organise cooking lessons where you do the whole preparation with the locals from harvesting some of the foods, to cooking and tasting the cooked food. This activity can be booked and organised during your stay at the lodge.
Crater lakes exploration/hike.
This hike/ walk will give you a chance to explore different crater lakes and you will learn about these lakes from where they derive their names, the beliefs of the locals. the magical views from the top of the world view point while on the walk are the rewards of the great hike. This walk takes you through nature and communities thus you will have a lot to learn.
